1. What type of fundraiser can I create?
We recommend making it unique! No matter what you choose, just be creative—engage in an activity that you and your friends and family would like to do! Here are some suggestions to get started:
- Birthdays—Make your birthday memorable and meaningful by turning your gifts into donations for children and families in need.
- Competitions—Participate in a group cycle, host a tournament, triathlon or 5K. Turn your passion into a gift for our children.
- Holidays—Holidays are about caring for and helping others. Ask for donations in lieu of gifts. Help restore the holiday spirit!
- Parties—Bring your friends and family together for the cause. You can host a casino night, happy hour, pancake breakfast, potluck dinner or any type of party.
- Special Occasions—Anticipating a wedding, anniversary or baby shower? Share your love for Banner Children’s by encouraging your guests and family to honor your special event with a donation in lieu of gifts.
- Tributes—Give a gift in honor or memory of someone special. What a fitting tribute to those you cherish.
Take advantage of all of your local community contacts—like your office, church, gym, school, and associations—to kick start your fundraiser. Engage those who already share a common interest with you.
2. How will the money raised be used by Banner Health Foundation?
You can designate your fundraising dollars to a Banner Health facility or program or choose to support the area where donations are most needed.
3. How do I get started?
Click Start Fundraising to begin and follow the step-by-step instructions provided. You'll have your own personal page and tools to help you maximize your success.
4. What steps should I take to maximize my donations?
- Go first: Make a donation to your page. Others are more inclined to give when they see that you are dedicated to the cause.
- Get personal: Add a photo and share your story on why YOU are raising funds for our organization. By telling your story, your friends and family will feel more connected to the cause. If you have a personal story, TELL IT.
- Be specific: Tell your donors exactly what you need. Would you like them to donate $20? Ask for $20.
- Send emails: Use the tools to send emails to your network of contacts, telling them why you are raising funds for our organization and make the “ask” for donations.
- Get social: Did you know that fundraisers raise 40% more by using social media? Let all of your friends and followers know that you are raising money, and share why the cause is important to you.
- Follow up: Did you know that it takes on average 3 asks to result in one gift? Once you have received a donation, don’t forget to thank your donor.
5. How do I spread the word about my fundraiser?
- Use the email tools found in the Participant Center to send personalized emails to your contacts, announce your event and ask for donations. Access the Participant Center by logging into your account and clicking on Participant Center at the top of the page.
- Engage your social media networks to drive people to your fundraising page. Create an event on Facebook to invite all of your friends and Tweet about your campaign.
6. How do I send in the money collected at my event?
Within 45 days of your event, mail in your donations to:
Banner Health Foundation
2901 N. Central Avenue, Suite 160
Phoenix, AZ 85012
7. Are donations tax deductible?
Any contribution to Banner Health Foundation qualifies as a deduction under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Payments made to the third-party fundraiser to cover expenses are not tax-deductible.
Difficulty could arise when an independent, outside organization wishes to raise money for our organization. If the payments are made to this independent organization, and it is not a qualified organization, the payments will not be deductible for income tax purposes. Therefore, checks must be made payable to Banner Health Foundation.
If a donor's payment is made directly to our organization, it qualifies for a tax deduction, to the extent permitted by law.
8. Do you impose any guidelines for the fundraiser?
- We reserve the right to decline association with any activities or third-party fundraisers if we believe the activity may have a negative effect on our reputation.
- All events must comply with federal, state and local laws, including fundraising rules and regulations.
- The activity will be promoted and conducted in a manner to avoid the appearance of our organization endorsing any product, firm, organization, individual or service.
- Our official organization logo should be appropriately used in conjunction with such an activity, but may not be altered in any way.
